About Dorie Klissas
For 20 years as a television producer, I vetted approximately ten pitches daily—totaling around 72,000 pitches. Over those decades, I have learned what makes a story pitchable. Today, I use this expertise to help leaders and organizations bring better health to our world—and that’s a pretty awesome job.
As Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at leading academic medical centers, I have led comprehensive branding, marketing, and communications strategies, overseeing digital and social media, media relations, internal communications, crisis response, content creation, strategic partnerships, and events. Additionally, I have directed creative initiatives, including design, video, and podcast production, to elevate brand impact and engagement.
For fifteen years, I was a producer for NBC’s Today, covering breaking news and developing groundbreaking medical series alongside Katie Couric. My work included Couric’s in-depth interviews with the late actor and activist Christopher Reeve and a multipart series on infertility, ADHD, autism, and medical breakthroughs. Our story on 9/11 burn victim Lauren Manning earned a News Emmy nomination. Later, as chief medical producer at CBS Evening News with Couric, I wrote and produced daily medical reports and award-winning enterprise stories.
As a veteran of eight Olympics with CBS and NBC Sports spanning three decades, I covered the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City, and the 1992 Summer Olympic Games in Barcelona, where I received a Sports Emmy Award. In addition to my Olympic work, I served as a city producer for Matt Lauer’s Where in the World? series on Today, coordinating productions in Morocco, Athens, and Mykonos.
While a producer on Today, I took a leave of absence to work as a reporter for KARK-TV, the NBC affiliate in Little Rock, Arkansas, and I also produced/reported for the Financial News Network in New York.
I earned my BA in European History from Harvard University, where I was a varsity tennis team member. While at Harvard, I worked in the scheduling office of Massachusetts Governor Michael S. Dukakis and interned at the press office of the Greek Embassy in Washington, DC. As a Rotary Foundation Scholar, I studied security studies at the Graduate School of International Affairs in Geneva, Switzerland.
